The Hungarian Academy of Sciences has a long history of research in the field of musicology, particularly through its Music Research Institute, dedicated to the study and promotion of musicology. There are two famous ethnomusicologists in the Hungarian musicology community, Bela Bartok and Zoldan Kodaj. They not only went deep into rural areas to collect folk songs and enrich their vocabulary with folk melodies, but also studied folk songs and other folk music works, making important contributions to the formation and construction of ethnomusicology. Bartok's work "Research on Hungarian Folk Songs" is the culmination of thousands of Hungarian folk songs that he personally collected and recorded during his long-term research, and is of great significance for understanding Hungarian folk music.

The Journal of Musicology Research at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences inherits this tradition and focuses on academic research and discussion in the field of musicology, covering multiple aspects such as music theory, music history, ethnomusicology, and music education.
