Onmytrip,IalsometwiththenewIraqiPrimeMinisterMaliki,andIwasabletoseefirsthandhisstrongcharacterandhisdeterminationtosucceed.WeheldajointmeetingofourtwoCabinets,withmembersofmyCabinetparticipatingbyvideoteleconferencefromCampDavid.ThePrimeMinisterbriefedusonhisplantotakeimmediatestepsinthreekeyareas:improvingsecurity,buildingupIraq''''seconomysoIraqiscanseerealprogressintheirlives,andreachingouttotheinternationalcommunitytosecuresupportforIraq''''snewgovernment.ThenwediscussedhowmyadministrationcanhelpthePrimeMinisteraccomplishthesevitalobjectives.

HistoppriorityissecuringBaghdad,soCoalitionandIraqiforceshavelaunchedOperationTogetherForward,ajointefforttorestoresecurityandtheruleoflawtohigh-riskareasofthecity.TohelpthePrimeMinisterimprovesecurity,wewillcontinueembeddingCoalitiontransitionteamsinIraqiarmyandpoliceunits,andwewillhelpthenewIraqiMinistersofDefenseandInteriorimprovetheircommandandcontrol,rootoutcorruption,andinvestigateandpunishhumanrightsviolations.WewillalsosupportthePrimeMinisterasheworkstoreininillegalmilitias,buildajudicialsystemthatwillprovideequaljusticetoall,andpromotereconciliationamongtheIraqipeople.

ToaidthePrimeMinisterinrevitalizingIraq''''seconomy,wewillsendadditionalexpertstohelptheIraqigovernmentdevelopaneconomicframeworkthatwillpromotejobcreationandopportunityforallIraqis.WewillalsohelpthePrimeMinisterincreaseoilandelectricityproductionbyworkingtogetheronwaystoprotectkeyinfrastructurefromattacks,andtoquicklyrestoreoilandelectricityproductionwhenattacksdooccur.
